Introduction

CELT is launching new asynchronous training experiences that approach modern AI in terms of technological literacy and human dignity. Rather than treating AI literacy as merely learning how to use emerging tools, these asynchronous experiences invite faculty to develop the knowledge, judgment, and practical wisdom needed to engage AI responsibly within their disciplines and in service of human flourishing

The first asynchronous experience is the AI Literacy pathway. This experience develops the intellectual foundations necessary to understand modern artificial intelligence, evaluate its capabilities and limitations, make responsible decisions about its use, and guide students toward thoughtful participation in an AI-mediated world. Through a guided Gemini Notebook tutoring experience, faculty engage in dialogue with sources and construct discipline-specific frameworks for AI literacy.

Learning Outcomes

1. Describe modern artificial intelligence in a way that is both embedded in your discipline and accessible to students
2. Evaluate generative AI outputs for accuracy, completeness, and ethical implications
3. Distinguish between appropriate, inappropriate, and context-dependent use of AI for both experts and novice learners within your discipline
4. Design an AI Literacy Framework that is embedded in the ethical principles of your discipline and oriented toward promoting the common good and human flourishing.
